MS for the Vale of Clwyd, Gareth Davies, raised the issue of Ukrainian refugees in Wales leaving Denbighshire to find other places in the UK to live.
Last year, Denbighshire welcomed Ukrainian refugees and Gareth praised everyone in the Vale of Clwyd for their generosity to Ukrainians. Equally, Gareth is glad that UK, Welsh, and local governments have worked together to pay their part in the war effort. However, some Ukrainian refugees in Denbighshire have decided to leave the area for other parts of the UK due to a lack of good transport links and facilities across the area. Commenting on this, Gareth said:
‘’Refugees from Ukraine came to the Vale of Clwyd to escape Putin’s brutal war and communities across the constituency welcomed them with open arms, but sadly some refugees are having to leave to find better facilities. Like on many other issues, the Welsh Government chose to reply to my question on this matter by deflecting to the UK Government for what is happen in England’.
‘’If the Welsh Government calls itself ‘Nation of Sanctuary’, then they should ensure that Ukrainian refugees do not need to leave Wales’’.
