Lloyds Banking Group has today announced the closure of 136 bank branches across the United Kingdom affecting Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland branches. One of the affected locations is the Halifax branch in Rhyl which is earmarked for closure on 23rd September 2025. This follows several bank closures in Denbighshire over the past few years with a banking hub having been set up in Prestatyn last year to provide continue banking services to the local community.
Vale of Clwyd MS, Gareth Davies, has commented on the planned closure, sharing his concerns regarding cash deserts in the area, and the impact this may have on elderly. Following a series of bank closures in Denbigh, Mr Davies has been meeting with stakeholders to set up a banking hub in the town to ensure continued access to banking services for residents of Denbigh and the surrounding villages. He has also requested a meeting with Halifax to discuss the matter further.
Responding to today’s announcement that the Rhyl Halifax bank is set to close, Senedd member for Vale of Clwyd Gareth Davies MS said:
“I was informed this morning of the disappointing news that the Halifax branch in Rhyl is set to close this December.
“We are not a cashless society, and the successive closure of bank branches and the decreasing accessibility of cash in local communities has had a big impact on many in Denbighshire, not least the elderly.
“I have been vociferous in my support for keeping banking services available in the area, so I have requested a meeting with Halifax to discuss this further.”
