Member of the Senedd for Vale of Clwyd, Gareth Davies, penned a letter to Denbighshire County Council's Traffic, Parking, and Road Safety Manager on Monday 27th November with a list of roads in Vale of Clwyd that should receive an exemption from the 20mph restriction.
This list was drawn up following feedback received by constituents, and looking at the available evidence. The list includes 17 roads that Mr Davies’ constituents requested be exempt from the 20mph restriction, and Mr Davies has requested that Denbighshire County Council review each of these.
Mr Davies outlined his position on the policy, saying:
“The Welsh Conservatives have made their position on the 'madcap' blanket 20mph speed limit very clear. A 20mph limit is sensible outside heavily pedestrianised areas, such as schools, hospitals, and care homes. But the Labour Government's blanket 20mph speed limit rollout across Wales is ludicrous, and part of a wider war against the motorist.”
The routes on which Mr Davies has requested a review (excluding tracks which are immediately outside schools and community resources) are the following:
• A525 Rhuddlan Road and Vale Road, Rhyl
• A525 Rhyl Road via Clwyd Retail Park
• Ffordd Derwen, Rhyl
• East Parade, Rhyl
• A548 Rhyl Coast Road
• A548 Russell Road, Rhyl
• A5151 Rhuddlan
• A547 Rhuddlan via Ffordd Porthwy
• Victoria Road, Prestatyn
• A547 Meliden Road and Gronant Road, Prestatyn
• Fforddisa and Ffordd Ffynnon, Prestatyn
• A525 Junction to A55, The Roe, St Asaph
• Upper Denbigh Road, St Asaph
• Ruthin Road, Denbigh
• A543 Rhyl Road, Denbigh
• A525 via Denbigh Green
• A525 Trefnant
