The Member of the Senedd for Vale of Clwyd, Gareth Davies recently welcomed Wales’ Shadow Minister for Education, Laura Anne Jones MS to Rhyl, as she visited Christ the Word School to meet the Interim Head, Bernadette Thomas, staff and pupils.
Mr Davies invited the Shadow Minister to visit Rhyl to find out more about the school after it being placed into Special Measures last summer by Estyn, the body that inspects all education facilities in Wales, and concern’s following the recent departure of the previous Headteacher and Deputy.
Speaking after the meeting, Miss Jones said, “it was a pleasure to visit Christ the Word School with local MS, Gareth Davies, to meet the Interim Headteacher, Mrs Thomas and to see what vision and plans the school have to turn its fortunes around, with a view hopefully, to come out of special measures in the future. I was very impressed by the modern building and facilities and think it has great potential to be a success going forward. I'd like to thank Mrs Thomas for giving me the opportunity to visit the school and thank her for being frank about the challenges ahead, I wish them all the best in the future.”
Vale of Clwyd MS, Gareth Davies said, “Following the issues of the implementation of special measures and staffing problems during 2022, I invited the Shadow Minister to visit Christ the Word to see what the problems are and to give everyone the opportunity to share their expertise and experience in working a way forward, so that this fantastic facility can deliver the best education possible for children in Rhyl."
Mr Davies went onto say,
"After a very positive and productive meeting with both Headteacher, Mrs Thomas and Laura, I was convinced that Christ the Word has the right plan going forward and look forward to enjoying a positive working relationship with the school, so that we can all work in the best interests of local kids. Let's all pull together and make the best of this world class facility."
