In an exchange with Welsh First Minister, Mark Drakeford, Vale of Clwyd Senedd Member, Gareth Davies hailed the success of the Denbigh Plum and local food and drink producers across Denbighshire.
The Denbigh Plum which has protected status and dates back to the 1700’s is the only native plum in Wales and is enjoyed by many people across the world, so much so that it’s success has been capitalised on by local businesses across Denbighshire that promote the best of what the plum has to offer including the making of jam’s, chutney’s and even gin and vodka liquors for those who enjoy a tipple.
Speaking after his exchange in the Senedd with Mr Drakeford, Gareth said, “it always gives me immense pleasure to promote local food and drink producers on a national scale in the Senedd as Denbighshire punches well above it’s weight for a small area in producing some of the finest culinary products in the world, including Snowdonia Cheese in Rhyl, ‘Shlizzy’ Gin and Vodka, and Vale Vinyard wines in Bodfari to name just a few. We have an array of talented producers in the county and to project it to the First Minister and have cross party support makes it even better.”
Mr Davies added:-
“Where the First Minister and I often disagree on many issues facing Wales it’s nice that we can both agree that Denbighshire’s food and drink producers are some of the best in the country and that is something to be celebrated, long live the Denbigh Plum!”
