The local Member of the Senedd for Vale of Clwyd, Gareth Davies recently visited Meifod Wood Products on Denbigh Industrial Estate to learn more about the wood products that are made on the site and to see the role it plays in the local community in Denbigh.
Meifod Wood Products is one of four Denbighshire County Council businesses that provides real life working environments for the personal and social development of people supported by the Learning Disability Service.
Meifod’s core business is the manufacture of high quality wooden outdoor furniture. The finished products are sold to both the general public and the “trade”. They are used in a wide range of outdoor locations, including domestic gardens, public walkways, shopping areas, hotels, care homes, restaurants and pubs, to name but a few.
Speaking after the visit, Gareth said, "I was delighted to meet the team at Meifod Wood Products in Denbigh to get a flavour of the high quality wood products that are produced the on site and I give praise to the hardworking team that not only produce high quality furniture, but also support and work in partnership with Denbighshire's Social Services team and fellow social employers in creating work opportunities for vulnerable adults to learn practical and social skills in a safe and supportive environment."
Meifod Wood Products uses environmentally sound methods and resources in its manufacturing process. The wood used, is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, which means that it sourced from forests operating by FSC standards. Stainless steel screws and fixings and high pressure preservation processes (known as tanalisation) also mean that when buying products from Meifod, the customer can be sure that the lifespan of purchases is not in question.
Mr Davies went onto say, "it's important that services such as Meifod exist in conjunction with other social employers so that Denbighshire and stakeholders can continue to provide essential skills to vulnerable adults and also acquire independent living skills which are essential to long term development and future job prospects. I wish the team at Meifod Wood Products all the best in the future and can continue to positively impact on local peoples lives."
