Member of the Senedd for the Vale of Clwyd, Gareth Davies, is working to secure banking facilities for Denbigh, writing to both Principality and LINK to state the case that there is a need for banking access in Denbigh and the surrounding villages.
A banking hub was set up in Prestatyn which has proved to be a popular resource in the town and continues to be a high demand service. Gareth has met with LINK previously to request a banking hub for Denbigh, but following an assessment, it did not meet the criteria set by the Financial Conduct Authority with regards to the necessary demand and size of the town.
The Financial Conduct Authority is consulting for a new regulatory regime which means that the criteria could be subject to change. Gareth wrote to LINK again on 24th January to request that they re-assess Denbigh’s eligibility for a banking hub once the consultation ends on 8th February.
Gareth also wrote to Principality requesting that they undertake a further assessment regarding the viability of rearranging the Denbigh branch to make room to install a One Banx machine. Gareth has argued that this would prove an invaluable resource given the ever-increasing demand for additional in-branch services and access to cash.
Gareth Davies MS said:
“With the closure of several bank branches in the last year, residents in Denbigh and the surrounding villages are in dire need of access to banking facilities and ATMs.
“Given the growing need for banking facilities in Denbigh, I have contacted both Principality and LINK to request that they reassess Denbigh’s eligibility for banking facilities.”
