Member of the Senedd for Vale of Clwyd, Gareth Davies has criticised the long waiting times at Glan Clwyd Hospital’s A&E Department and has blamed the failure to build North Denbighshire Community Hospital in Rhyl as a main contributory factor to this.
Gareth has recently been contacted by several concerned constituents in Vale of Clwyd who reported A&E waiting times as long as 55-Hours recently which is over two days between entering the Emergency Department and receiving the adequate care and attention they need from the relevant healthcare professionals.
Commenting on the matter, Mr Davies said, “local people in Vale of Clwyd have had enough of long waiting times at Glan Clwyd Hospital, and waits of up to 55-Hours to see a healthcare professional at A&E is obscene and completely unacceptable, when is the Health Board going to get its act together, get waiting times down and act in the best interests of local residents? We live in an ageing society, and it’s the role of decision makers and Health Boards to adapt to the changing needs of our population and we’re currently seeing no evidence of this from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.”
Mr Davies sees the failure to build North Denbighshire Community Hospital at the Royal Alexandra in Rhyl as a major contributory factor to long A&E waiting times at Glan Clwyd Hospital and sees the construction of the new facility as a solution to the problem. Commenting on this subject, Gareth said, “what the people of Rhyl, Prestatyn and surrounding areas have seen over the last decade, is broken promise after broken promise to build North Denbighshire Community Hospital that would include a Minor Injuries Unit, which would provide the chance for the “walking wounded” to be treated faster, leaving staff at Glan Clwyd Hospital to get on with the job of treating the most seriously unwell thus bringing down overall waiting times. The solution is there, it’s down to Minister’s in Cardiff Bay and the Health Board to see this, make this a reality, and do right by the local area that are desperate to see progress on the Community Hospital.”
