Gareth Davies, Member of the Senedd for Vale of Clwyd has called for “urgent action” from the Welsh Government on funding to replace Llannerch Bridge which links the villages of Trefnant and Tremeirchion.
This follows a public meeting held on Thursday 15th July at the White House in Rhuallt which was attended by members of the public, Gareth Davies himself, Vale of Clwyd MP, Dr James Davies, Council Leaders and Officers, where the public had the opportunity to view plans for the replacement and pose questions to Officers and decision makers on the Council.
Llannerch Bridge is an old stone road bridge that was washed away during Storm Christoph in 2021, and has been raised many times in the Senedd by Gareth Davies and campaigned on in conjunction with local Councillors representing the Authority. Since the bridges destruction it has left the road closed and seperating the two villages of Trefnant and Tremeirchion leaving local residents feeling isolated and general and farm traffic having to take large diversions to reach their intended destination.
Commenting on the bridge, Gareth said, “I find it astonishing that two and a half years on from Storm Chistoph, we are still debating this subject today without any tangible progress or a digger in site, the people of Trefnant and Tremeirchion have had enough of waiting and false promises, it’s time to deliver the bridge and get the right funding in place from Welsh Government to make this a reality.”
It was confirmed by Council Officers at the public meeting on 15th June that Denbighshire County Council do not have the funding availible to replace the bridge themselves and need a financial commitment from the Welsh Government in order to carry out preparatory works for the bridges replacement.
Gareth went onto say, “of course I understand money is tight and that decisions need to be made, but this has gone on long enough now and what local people need are firm commitments from Welsh Ministers in Cardiff Bay so we can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel and we can reconnect rural villages in Vale of Clwyd, we need action and we need it now!”
