Vale of Clwyd MS, Gareth Davies, has highlighted in the Senedd how American Bullies have been responsible for the untimely deaths of people in Wales and has called for them to be banned.
The Dangerous Dogs Act (1991) has given clear guidelines as to which breeds of dogs are banned in the UK and has worked to prevent people, mainly children, being injured or killed by dangerous dogs. However, new breeds of dogs have been able to evade the Act.
Speaking in the Senedd, Gareth told the Welsh Government how 6 deaths were caused in 2022 by the American Bully. Commenting, Gareth said:
''Myself, and residents are concerned about dogs such as the American Bully which has been proven to be an extremely dangerous dog''.
''It is clear that the Welsh Government must use the powers it has to prevent this breed harming anyone else and pressure the UK Government to amend the Dangerous Dogs Act to include a ban on American Bullies'.
