Gareth Davies, Member of the Senedd for the Vale of Clwyd, is calling on residents across Denbighshire to support local independents businesses in the lead-up to Small Business Saturday on 7th December.
He marked Small Business Saturday by visiting a range of local businesses in St Asaph and Dyserth to highlight the importance of supporting independent retailers and enterprises. Small Business Saturday, celebrated annually since 2013, is a grassroots campaign that encourages consumers to shop locally and support the small businesses in their communities that they all know and love. This year Gareth wants people to take another look at the High Street and beyond this weekend, to help give local firms a boost now and in the run up to Christmas.
The first visit was to local family sandwich shop, Little Lunchbox, before stopping by the father and son-owned hardware store, Bill and Ben’s DIY which have been a presence on St Asaph High Street for 31 years. He then stopped for a coffee at local favourite Jacob’s Ladder at the heart of St Asaph, before visiting Lima Lima Wholesale, which is the biggest vintage clothes wholesaler in North Wales. His final visit was to Earthworks pottery which runs a popular pottery class. Gareth also visited the popular Dyserth Butchers before meeting the owner of the Peter Morgan Pharmacy which has been a staple in the village for many years.

Following his visits in the run up to Small Business Saturday, Gareth said:
“Small Business Saturday is a tremendous opportunity to highlight the tremendous independent shops and businesses that make our communities unique. We are fortunate in Denbighshire to have such a diverse array of retailers, many of which have been features of our towns and villages for many years.
“Independent enterprises are the backbone of our local economy and community, so It was a delight to drop by local businesses on the St Asaph High Street, meet the owners, thank them for their contribution, and have an opportunity to promote that contribution.
“Many local businesses are having a tough time at the moment, and following the UK Government’s Budget, things are getting tougher. So, I’d urge all residents across Denbighshire to shop local and give small businesses a boost now and in the run up to Christmas.”
