Gareth Davies, Member of the Senedd for the Vale of Clwyd, called in at Ysgol Emmanuel in Rhyl on 2nd February to talk to year six pupils about his responsibilities as a Senedd Member. Gareth visited Ysgol Emmanuel and held the talk and Q&A as part of 'Your Vote Week 2024' which is all about young people across the UK learning more about voting and democracy, and raising awareness about why it is important and impactful.
Gareth was grilled by the pupils on his background, his path to becoming an MS, his political aims and inspiration, and his views on current UK and Welsh legislation such as the vape ban, the XL Bully ban, and the 20-mph speed limit rollout in Wales.
Commenting afterwards, Gareth Davies MS said:
"It was a pleasure to meet the pupils of Ysgol Emmanuel and was fantastic to see them taking an interest in democracy and how the Senedd operates. Children always display a refreshing honesty and insight to their questioning, and they certainly did not hold back from asking tough questions.
"It is evident that quality of teaching at Ysgol Emmanuel is high, coupled with a great ethos which was reflected by the inquisitive nature of the children. This year's theme for 'Your Vote Week' was 'Your Voice Matters', and it was great to see the pupils considering their own thoughts on issues at such a young age."
